We encourage you to read the story of how these camp chairs came into existence, below. But first, a note before we proceed: because our camp chairs are made from upcycled materials found in our shop every single chair will have a different color scheme! That's all part of the fun! Now, the story...
In a world where techy camp chairs reign supreme (would you like the built in koozie? tablet holder? speaker addition? hydraulic actuators?) we decided to take it back to the basics.
One day our head build designer, Mike, was scratching his head wondering what to do with all the scrap wood we had in the shop. Mid-way through his third scratch, he had a revelation: he could use our long cutoffs from cabinets and our extra upholstery from wall panels to make simple, comfortable, and durable camp chairs.
The idea worked brilliantly. Scrap in the shop was minimized, we started having conversations about larger production...and Covid hit. Projects went on the back-burner. The shop guys had to social distance at work...and on break...outside...so they used Mike's camp chairs. The chairs were stored outside, every day, in the elements, for over a year. Day, night, sun, rain, warm, cold, dust, wind, calm...3 shop guys sitting on one chair at once...you name it and the chairs met it head on.
A couple years later, and with renewed sense of vigor, we are putting the chairs back online to give y'all a chance to help us minimize our shop waste, and to buy chairs that are built to last.
The last images in the slides show two of the year+ element exposed chairs. Sure, they're a little frayed, a little weathered, but that beats any similarly priced fabric camp chair we've experienced ourselves!
Down with the waste!
